The Chester Branch is a former Delaware, Lackawana, & Western line that was purchased by the Chester Branch Co.  (a partnership of Holland Manufacturing and Westinghouse Elevator) from Conrail on December 21, 1983.  The M&E was selected as the operator of the line, and service began on December 23, 1983.

The branch begins at the Lake Junction interchange, which is where all incoming and outgoing cars are exchanged with Norfolk Southern.  The line continues in a southwest direction, to Ferromonte Junction,  the start of the High Bridge Branch.

The two active customers on the branch, Holland Manufacturing and Wickes Lumber, are located close to NJ Route 10, approximately 3½ miles from Lake Junction.  Also located on the line is Kenvil Newcrete, a former producer of pre-cast concrete building products as well as the former Schindler Elevator facility in Randolph.  Both of these sites are available for redevelopment.  Please contact Bill Phillips (973) 267-4300 for more information.

The line is served on the M&E’s standard five days a week as-needed basis.
